How to Use This Site

Contact

This website serves to share information, standards, and a common language. One of the goals of CONNECT is to improve and ease transfer for students in and among the six CONNECT institutions. The more we as instructors agree about the outcomes of first-year writing, the more transferable  the courses we teach will be.

Information

Explore the site. You'll find all sorts of useful information about the CONNECT Writing Project, employment opportunities, policies, writing labs (OWLS), learning outcomes, etc. A good place to start is "Learning Outcomes" listed under "Course Design." Considering that five and now six institutions collaborated to vet this document, this is the heart of our project, both in process and product.

Inspiration

There are syllabi, assignments, pedagogy, event postings, students writings, all here to inspire, provoke and serve the professional development of writing faculty. These areas also serve to build a sense of community and pride. The video testimonials listed under "Stories" were captured at our annual conference. Many seminar leaders generously supplied their presentations under "Session Archives."

Inclusion

Our primary audience is instructors of 1st year writing at the six CONNECT institutions, but our reach goes beyond to high schools, college writing in other disciplines, second language instruction. In addition, we reach out to a national audience who may find this site and its associated mission a model for their on development of starting a conversation between higher education at the community college, the four-year and the university levels.

Contribute!

This is a living text; we encourage you to submit materials and feedback. The more we have the more diverse we are, and yet with all our differences, we share the same goal of seeing out first year writers "get there."
